The Dream: A Bohemian Rhapsody in a Chhatarpur Farmhouse
When Priya and Rohan approached us, they had a clear vision. They wanted a Mehendi ceremony that was relaxed, vibrant, and deeply personal—a "bohemian rhapsody," as Priya called it. They had booked a sprawling farmhouse lawn in Chhatarpur, a beautiful green canvas, but one that presented its own set of challenges. Their dream was to move away from the traditional and embrace a whimsical, free-spirited vibe that reflected their personalities. They wanted their guests to feel like they had stepped into a colourful, joyous festival, not just a pre-wedding ritual.
The Challenge: Turning a Sprawling Lawn into an Intimate Oasis
A large, open lawn is a decorator’s dream, but it can also be a nightmare. The primary challenge was to make the vast space feel intimate and cosy without losing its grandeur. How do you ensure guests don’t feel lost in the expanse? How do you create distinct areas for seating, photos, and food that flow seamlessly into one another? And, the ever-present Delhi question: how do you prepare for unpredictable weather, from a sudden dust storm to a scorching sun?
The Adore Celebration Blueprint for a Flawless Mehendi
Our team thrives on such creative challenges. We saw the farmhouse not as an empty field, but as a multi-act stage. Our plan was to create different ‘zones,’ each with its own unique character, yet all tied together by the central bohemian theme.
Zone by Zone: The Art of Space Planning
To tackle the vastness of the lawn, we broke it down into dedicated experience zones:
- The Centre Stage: We designed a stunning centrepiece with a large, ornate wooden jhoola (swing) for the bride, draped in thousands of fresh marigolds and jasmine. Behind it, a backdrop of colourful tassel strings and dreamcatchers added to the boho-chic aesthetic.
- The Comfort Corner: Instead of standard tables and chairs, we created low seating areas with vibrant gaddas, bolsters, and throw cushions in shades of fuchsia, orange, and turquoise. This encouraged a relaxed, informal vibe where guests could lounge comfortably.
- The Instagram Hub: No modern Mehendi is complete without a dedicated photo spot! We brought in a classic, brightly painted auto-rickshaw and decorated it with flowers and quirky props. It was an instant hit and became the most popular spot for selfies and group pictures.
A Symphony of Colours and Textures
The colour palette was crucial. We layered bright, festive colours with earthy textures. Drapes of block-printed fabrics and breezy chiffon in shades of pink and yellow created a beautiful canopy, offering shade and adding a pop of colour against the green lawn. We used traditional elements like painted matkas (earthen pots) and brass urlis filled with water and floating petals to add an ethnic touch that grounded the bohemian theme.
The Little Details That Made a Big Impact
True magic lies in the details. We hung strings of bells and colourful pompoms from the trees, which tinkled gently in the breeze. Personalised signage with fun, quirky quotes about love and marriage guided guests through the different zones. Even the welcome drink station was styled with bamboo and floral arrangements. As dusk fell, hundreds of fairy lights woven into the drapes and trees transformed the venue into a magical, starlit wonderland.
